How long has your company been in business?
Our family has been in the rug business for generations. Our shop has been operating in Maryland under the same name and managed by the same people since 1978.
Do I need an appointment?
You do not need an appointment to shop, drop-off or pick-up rugs. For an appraisal, we ask that you call before you come to make sure our expert is in the shop (he almost always is!).
If you are in a hurry, you are always welcome to call in advance so we can have specific rugs ready for you to view, or to have your rugs ready for pick-up.
What do you charge for cleaning and repair?
Due to the nature of carpets and their varying content and quality, each job is priced on a case by case basis. If you call us or email us with your rug measurements, we can help you get an accurate quote.
Do you pick-up and deliver?
Yes, we do! Pick-up and delivery is free within the DC-metro area (a 45 minute drive from our location) with any job of $150 or more. Please contact us for pricing for out-of-area pick-ups.
How often should I get my rugs cleaned?
A good, professional cleaning is recommended every 5-7 years in order to maintain the health and beauty of your rug. Even if a rug doesn’t look dirty, you should have it cleaned in order to remove all settled dirt from the foundation of the carpet. Rugs in high traffic areas such as family rooms and foyers should be cleaned more often, and, of course, it is always a good idea to wipe up spills immediately in order to prevent staining.
How long does it take?
Rug cleaning can take a week to ten days for a standard cleaning (so plan for a 2 week turnaround time when pick-up and delivery times need to be included). Soaking may take longer, as we clean the rug multiple times until it no longer smells. Repairs generally take 2 weeks or more, depending on how extensive they are.
Do you buy or consign rugs?
The short answer is, “Yes!” The long answer is, “It depends.” What it depends on is what you have, what condition it is in, what price you’re asking, what type of rug sells well right now and what we already have in stock. Sometimes we buy rugs outright, and sometimes we consign them. Our consignment fee is 20% if the rug sells. Please feel free to call or email us for more information.
Do you store rugs?
We do not. In fact, we do not recommended storing rugs at all. If you are unable to use a rug, loan it to a clean friend who will keep it in use and vacuumed regularly.
If you must store your rugs, choose a cool, dry place, and every few months, open the rug and vacuum it to prevent moth damage.
What can I do at home to take better care of my rug?
Vacuum! It is the best thing you can do (but watch out for the fringe!). A good vacuuming of the entire rug will prevent moth damage and keep the pile nice and fluffy and clean. Flipping the rug over and vacuuming the back every so often will help it greatly as well. Also, remember to rotate your rug every few years to promote even wear and sun fading.
