Do I Need A Rug Pad?

The short answer to the question of, “Do I Need a Rug Pad?” is, “Yes.” Nonetheless, we realize life can get busy and hectic, and sometimes rug padding is not your top priority. There are cases where getting a rug pad for your carpet should be a priority, however, and we’re happy to advise you where your particular rugs are concerned.

Rug padding, which you will sometimes also hear called underlay or underlayment, serves several purposes. From a rug care perspective, the most important purpose rug pad for hardwood floors serves is that of promoting the longevity of your rug. 

The action of walking on a rug causes the rug to be ground into the floor with every step. When a rug has padding underneath, this literally cushions the blow and prevents premature wear. With delicate or antique rugs that have already seen years of use, you should really view rug padding as a necessity. 

Another top reason for getting pads for your rug is safety. If your rug is not anchored by furniture, it may slip across the floor. A pad will provide the grip needed to keep your rug firmly planted on the floor.  

Should I Replace my Rug Pad?

Rug pad has a lifespan of approximately 10 years. We do not clean rug padding and recommend replacement when the padding has been soiled, it begins to break down or it loses its gripping capabilities. If you have jute padding under your rugs, it is definitely time for a padding replacement, as jute padding has not been made for a couple of decades. If your rug padding has seen better days, it might be a good idea to schedule your rugs for cleaning and have new pads cut all at the same time. We can take care of all of this for you. 

Custom Cut Padding

The rug padding that we carry is a ⅜” thick fiber and rubber-like pad suitable for all rugs. Our staff will measure your rug and cut padding to size. Padding is cut several inches smaller than your rug to enable the rug to lie softly on top of the rug without the padding being detected. In lieu of bringing the rug to our location, you can just bring your exact rug measurements, and we will cut the padding for you – 5×7, 8×10, 9×12 12×20, and any size in between, we can cut it for you! When you arrive home, you place the rug between the floor and the rug, and your rug will be protected, and your feet will be pampered.
