Description
Sarouk rugs are beautiful, traditional floral pieces from the small city of Arak, Iran. Ordinally, rugs are named after the city or village in which they’re made, but Sarouks are an exception, and it is totally for marketing purposes. Rug dealers felt that the name Arak sounded too much like the country of Iraq, so they opted to name rugs from this region after a littler-known suburb of Arak, Sarouk. So, if you’re out and about in Iran and ask after Sarouk rugs, people may not know what you’re talking about.
Sarouks are great rugs for “zee-reh pah” or underfoot as it translates from Farsi to English. When we get 75-100 year old rugs into our shop for cleaning and repair, there is a good chance that the rug might be a Sarouk because they last that long. This particular rug is no exception. It is ready for lots of use and can withstand being put in a heavily trafficked foyer or den.
