This Mashad Square Persian rug is a rare beauty. Rugs are generally made in a rectangular shape, so this is quite the find. This rug is in a very traditional, floral pattern, in a cool raspberry red and rich blue. The size and style of this rug make it a perfect pic for a formal dining room, particularly one with a square or circular table. You can see Persian rugs in dining rooms here. The piece appears to have never been used, as it shows little to no wear. All edges and bindings are all original, and the rug is even dated and signed. The date on this rug is 1361 (right now it is the late 1390s according to the Iranian calendar), and the name of the signature is “Shari Ati” (could be the weaver or the person who ordered the rug…it isn’t a famous enough person to mean anything, but it is cool). A formal dining room with a glass table would also do this rug great justice. Enjoy!
